Picture a Rainbow
By Michael Lang
I saw a rainbow on my morning walk today. I asked myself what a rainbow means to me and the word hope popped into my mind.
Hope – isn’t a word word we currently hear about during today’s world. As we are all in this challenging environment together, there is very little discussion about where the end is and what that looks like.
So from my perspective, I create my own hope. My hope is that through this experience, we as a society of individuals learn to have a greater understanding and appreciation of others.
You see right now in isolation, we are learning to live with the people close to us on a 24/7 basis. Normally, this would probably not be the case. We would have our time with others and also have more time to ourselves.
In 2007, my wife, 2 daughters and I went to live in Tuscany for 9 months. It was an amazing experience. My first challenge was re-framing one of my identities. My identity was being the family “bread winner” and I was required to become “the provider” to being enough chilling out with no expectation of completing a business task. I had to learn to live the “domani” principal – “tomorrow”.
One of the unexpected outcomes of with living with my wife 24 x 7 for 9 months – every day we became closer to each other. We tweaked our communication and found even more alignment with how to raise our daughters – this changed our family life dramatically.
So know as we find ourselves in this isolation world, we are prepared. I dare say for many other people out there though this is quite a challenging time.
So in this time of uncertainty, I lean more towards hope and look for positive news items. There are many positive news stories– you just need to be attuned and focus on them.
In our weekly newsletter, we have started to shared positive news stories, stories we hear from companies we are talking to.
If you are interested in sharing your stories, reach out to me. Perhaps you could share the company wins and positive news within your company.
It’s absolute worthwhile sharing externally to spread more positive news.
Look for the rainbows, share positive vibes and own it.
